DC Half Diamond Farm Speckle Park Cows in the Field

ABOUT SPECKLE PARK

The Speckle Park breed is a Canadian creation that was created and developed in two western Canadian provinces – Saskatchewan and Alberta. Genetically, Speckle Park is a combination of three breeds from England and Scotland: Teeswater Shorthorn, Aberdeen Angus, and English cattle with the white park pattern. This cattle breed is now also at home in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, England, and the United States.

Speckle Park are consistent easy calvers with low birth weights averaging approx. 75-85 lbs, along with high milk flow and great udders. This cold-hardy breed is feed efficient while producing consistent tender meat with consistent marbling and minimal fat cover, off of both grass and grain. Speckle Parks are a desirable breed because they are docile, quiet, kind-natured, and polled resulting in very manageable cows and bulls.

There are 4 main coloring options within this breed. Speckled is the classic coloring and is predominantly black sides and face with a white top line, white underbelly and some speckle pattern on the hips and shoulders. Leopard pattern coloring is similar to the classic coloring but with predominantly more white throughtout, making them look more white with black spots. Another color possibility is pure white with black ears, nose and skin around the eyes. This color is called white with black points. The fourth color pattern is Heterozygous Black, which means they carry the red gene but they themselves are all black. These Speckle Park can produce red calves in commercial programs when mated to Red or Heterozygous Black cattle and the red can be displayed in any pattern.

The Speckle Park breed was developed over fifty years and is now a distinct pure breed according to the terms of the Canadian Animal Pedigree Act.
